Bowen Therapy

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen is a remedial technique, which, by engaging the nerve receptors to be found in the soft tissues, i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues, acts on the central nervous system to help restore your body to optimum balance – and free you of the pain arising from  musculo-skeletal issues such as back / neck / knee / shoulder and other problems.  This same process can also be highly effective in relieving the discomfort caused by hormonal imbalances, allergies, respiratory issues, digestive issues, and more.

What can Bowen Therapy help with?

Your body has a truly amazing capacity to self heal, but we can all experience those times when, for example, through injury or illness, the body just needs a helping hand to repair and recover.  Wherever you have pain, regardless of whether of long or short duration, regardless of whether the result of illness, accident, sporting injury, work related injury etc, Bowen Therapy may help.  Note that Bowen is never a substitute for appropriate medical advice, and does NOT treat specific conditions, however as well as helping to address musculo-skeletal issues as described above, the technique may also assist with e.g.:

Respiratory :  think hayfever etc

Digestive :  think IBS, constipation

Hormonal imbalances:  think fertility issues (men and women); menopause etc

Pregnancy:  supporting you through your pregnancy

Sports / training:  faster recovery from training

Who can be helped by Bowen Therapy?

Bowen is safe for all age ranges, starting from babies, through to children, to adults (including pregnant women), right up to the most senior of citizens – everyone can benefit.  Gentle and non-invasive, the stimulus of Bowen Therapy can help trigger that self healing response innate in us all.

What is a Bowen treatment like?

With the client ideally wearing light, loose and stretchy clothing for ease of working, a Bowen treatment is normally conducted on a therapy table, although treatment can be carried out with the client sitting or standing, depending on e.g. postural, comfort or mobility issues. After taking a client history, and on the basis of individual assessment, treatment is then targeted at addressing the root cause of the problem – which, you may sometimes be surprised to discover, is not necessarily where the pain manifests!  By tailoring each Bowen treatment in this way, the body is encouraged to process the changes required to resolve the presenting issue – and get you out of pain and discomfort.
